SEO for Accountants

Attract More Enquiries with Local SEO

SEO for accountants helps your firm appear in front of businesses and individuals who are actively searching for accounting services in your local area.

If your accounting firm isn’t visible in local search results, you’re missing out on enquiries and handing potential clients to competitors who rank above you.

I’ve been helping small businesses improve their visibility in search results for more than 20 years, and local SEO is often far simpler than many businesses are led to believe.

On this page, I’ll explain why most SEO for accountants fails, how I approach local SEO for accountants, and what to expect from my SEO services and packages.

Why Most SEO Services for Accountants Don’t Work

Most agencies who provide SEO services for accountants make the same three mistakes, preventing accounting firms from generating the visibility, traffic, and enquiries they should.

1. Ignoring technical SEO issues

No amount of SEO work can compensate for a poorly built website.

If your accounting website is slow, difficult to navigate, poorly structured, or full of technical issues, search engines will struggle to understand and rank it properly.

In some cases, important pages may not appear in search results at all.

2. Targeting the most competitive keywords

Many SEO companies promise page one rankings for the accounting keywords with the highest search volumes.

The reality is that most accounting firms don’t have the authority, content, or online presence needed to compete against established firms that have invested in SEO for years.

A smarter approach is to focus on achievable opportunities first, build authority over time, and target the searches most likely to generate enquiries.

3. Keyword stuffing

When I first started learning SEO back in 2006, it was common practice to repeat the same keywords throughout a page in an attempt to improve rankings.

Today, that approach does more harm than good.

Keyword stuffing creates a poor experience for your visitors and is viewed by Google as a spam tactic designed to manipulate search results.

Despite this, many SEO agencies and consultants still rely on outdated methods that simply no longer work.

These are just a few of the common mistakes I see when reviewing accountant websites.

Some will limit your visibility in search results. Others can prevent your website from reaching its full potential altogether.

My Approach to Local SEO for Accountants

Let’s talk about how I approach SEO for accountants.

You don’t need shortcuts, tricks, or black-hat SEO tactics to improve your visibility in Google. You need a solid website, the right keywords, and content that helps potential clients choose your firm.

This is the same process I follow when providing local SEO services for accountants and other small businesses across the UK.

1. Start with an SEO audit

Before making any recommendations, I carry out a full SEO audit of your website.

I use a range of SEO tools to identify technical issues, performance problems, content gaps, indexing issues, and other factors that could be limiting your visibility in search results.

In many cases, the biggest problems are obvious within a few minutes of reviewing a website. The audit simply gives me the complete picture before creating an SEO plan.

The audit also shows whether your website is already ranking for relevant keywords, which can sometimes give us a useful head start.

2. Focus on local keyword opportunities

Every day, potential clients search online for accountants in your local area.

The challenge is that they don’t all use the same search terms.

Some people search for “accountants near me”. Others search for “tax accountant”, “bookkeeping services”, “small business accountant”, or more specific services in a particular town or city.

My keyword research process focuses on finding search terms that are relevant to your services, relevant to your location, and realistic to rank for.

For example, if I wanted to rank for “SEO London”, I’d be competing against some of the largest SEO agencies in the country. That’s not a battle I’d choose to fight.

The same principle applies to accountant SEO.

I’d rather help your firm dominate the searches that matter most in your local area than chase highly competitive keywords that are unlikely to generate results.

For example, an accountant in Norwich may have a better chance of ranking for “small business accountant Norwich” than trying to compete for “Norwich accountants”.

In many cases, ranking for several highly targeted local keywords can generate more enquiries than ranking for one broad, competitive search term.

3. Create content that turns visitors into enquiries

There’s little value in increasing website traffic if that traffic does not convert into enquiries and paying clients.

Every key page on your website should help Google understand what services you offer, where you offer them, and why a potential client should choose you.

That’s where SEO copywriting plays a critical role.

Good SEO content writing improves your visibility in search results while also building trust with the people visiting your website.

It’s often one of the most important parts of any SEO campaign and one of my favourite services to deliver.

With a technically sound website, realistic keyword targets, and persuasive content that converts visitors into enquiries, you’ll have a much stronger foundation for long-term SEO success.

SEO Packages for Accountants

Many SEO agencies rely on long-term contracts and ongoing monthly retainers.

I take a different approach.

The SEO Starter Package is designed for accountants who want a clear SEO strategy, practical recommendations, and an action plan they can implement immediately without any long term commitments.

SEO Starter Package – £599 (Fixed-Price)

The SEO Starter Package includes:

  • Full website SEO audit
  • SEO Consultation Call (60 Minutes)
  • Keyword and competitor research
  • SEO strategy and recommendations
  • Google Business Profile optimisation guidance
  • One professionally written SEO page
  • No contracts or ongoing monthly fees

Once the research is complete, I’ll show you the keywords and local search opportunities your firm can realistically compete for.

From there, you can decide whether you’d like to expand your SEO efforts further.

Additional SEO pages can be added at any time for £200 per page, allowing you to target more services, locations, and search terms as your business grows.

This allows you to start with the opportunities most likely to generate enquiries and expand your SEO as your business grows.

It’s a simple, affordable way to improve your visibility in Google and attract more enquiries without committing to expensive monthly retainers.

“Thanks again for all the SEO work you’ve done for us so far. We’ve managed to win back our page one results on Google for both of the main locations and we’re getting more enquiries than we can handle at the minute.”

Frequently Asked Questions About SEO for Accountants

What is Local SEO?

Local SEO is the process of improving your online visibility so your business appears in search results when people are looking for your products or services in their local area. It focuses on local keywords, Google Business Profiles and attracting nearby customers.

How long does SEO take to work?

SEO can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months to produce results, depending on your competition, website quality, website age and the work required. Less competitive local keywords often produce results faster than highly competitive search terms.

What’s the difference between SEO and local SEO?

Local SEO focuses on helping businesses appear in search results for customers in a specific area, whereas SEO can target customers locally, nationally or internationally. Local SEO places a stronger focus on location-based keywords, Google Business Profiles and local search visibility.

Will local SEO work for my industry?

Local SEO works for most businesses that serve customers in a specific town, city or region. If people are searching online for the products or services you offer in your local area, local SEO can help improve your visibility and generate more enquiries.

Can I do local SEO myself?

Many small businesses can handle the basics of local SEO themselves, including setting up a Google Business Profile, improving website content and targeting local keywords. However, professional SEO services can often help you achieve results faster and avoid common mistakes.

How do I get my business to show up on Google Maps?

To appear on Google Maps, you’ll need a verified Google Business Profile. Once your profile is set up, complete and properly optimised, Google can start showing your business in local search results and on Google Maps when people search for relevant services in your area.
