Are you looking for a professional training consultant to help create or optimise your learning and development set-up?

My name is David Craig White, and I am a freelance training consultant with over 15 years of hands-on experience in learning and development.
I have worked with some of Europe’s fastest-growing startups providing sales training and coaching services and helping them as a training and learning and development consultant.
“David is by far one of the strongest trainers and coaches I have ever come across…perhaps THE strongest!
Aki Danmark Palikaras – HR Director at Maersk
Whether you’re a startup looking to get started with an onboarding consultant or a growing company that needs help optimising your learning and development set-up, I can help.
What is a Training Consultant?
A training consultant or learning and development consultant can help you build or improve your internal or external training platforms and processes.
Ultimately, the role of a training consultant is to help you create or improve effective learning experiences for your employees of customers.
This could include either implementing the learning and development systems and processes for you or advising your internal team on how.
Learning and Development Consultant Tasks
Learning and development consultant tasks range from planning training events to building out complete learning management software (LMS) systems and more.
Some of the common tasks I have helped companies with as a learning and development consultant in the past include but are not limited to the following:
- Creating or optimising onboarding programs
- Facilitating corporate training or kick-off events
- Implementing a company coaching culture
- Creating employee or customer training content
- Building a complete company training academy (online and offline)
- Implementing skills gap analysis for employees and managers
- Optimising manager one-to-one framework
- Optimising internal employee coaching framework
My training consultant services can either be very advisory-based or hands-on, depending on the client I am working with and their internal resources.
My learning and development consultant services are more commonly advisory-based as larger companies tend to have the resources to execute.
I currently do not offer support to larger organisations looking to implement complex learning and development systems that require SCORM and other special technical specifications.
Benefits of a Training Consultant
One of the most crucial benefits of hiring an external training or learning and development consultant is that we can see what you cannot.
As a freelance training consultant looking from the outside, I can offer an unbias and unblinkered overview of your training set-up.
I also have the experience of having worked with multiple companies as a learning and development consultant, so I know the common mistakes that are made.
This means I can help you implement change faster and help you avoid some of the most common pitfalls other companies make.
David was my mentor and coach and helped me with everything from how to structure coaching sessions to how you can establish a company coaching culture.
He also helped me with my self-awareness and emotional intelligence and take ownership of my personal development.
I can truly recommend David to every organisation that wants to grow through motivated and skilled employees. He will always be my number 1 success coach.

Training Consultant Framework
Before I accept any new training consultant projects, it’s essential we have a consultation call to see if there’s a good match.
You can request this by either scrolling to the bottom of this page or using the contact form.
When working on training or learning and development consultant projects, I use a detailed six-stage framework to maximize communication and measure ROI where possible.
Stage One – Analyze
The most crucial stage for any business consultant is analysis.
During the analysis, I aim to gain a complete overview of your business needs, existing learning and development content and processes.
Sometimes this stage is complex and takes a long time – other times, it’s easy.
Where possible, I will always try and use the analysis to create a benchmark. This will allow you to measure the return on investment (ROI) for your learning and development team.
Stage Two – Blueprint Approval
Upon completing my analysis, I will build a blueprint for how your new training platforms or processes could look, which I will present to you and other stakeholders for approval.
Stage Three – Trial Implementation
During trial implementation, you or I roll out a small test portion of some of the new content or systems to a small target audience for user testing.
Stage Four – Full Implementation
Upon completion of the trial implementation, we move to the full implementation.
Again, it is important to roll out most of the changes in a live environment and get real-time feedback just as a backup to be sure the process is smooth.
Stage Five – Evaluate and Tweak
Once your new training and development platforms or processes have been in place for a short time, it’s essential to evaluate the feedback and results.
You should also use this evaluating stage to collect feedback from the end-users so that you can continue improving on your current set-up.
It is also my job as a training consultant to strongly advise you to continuously evaluate your set-up and create a new benchmark to work from.
Training and development is one of the most challenging departments to measure when it comes to the return on investment (ROI), which is why benchmarking is crucial.
Stage Six – Automation
Upon completion of the evaluation, we can also look into automating as much as possible.
This stage could include automating workflows, integrating with external tools or creating email alerts for certifications, milestones or team managers, etc.
Training Consultant Costs
It’s difficult to provide cost estimates for any training consultant or learning and development consultant projects without having a chat and doing some analysis.
Most new clients usually commit to a 10-hour block of consulting at the cost of £1,799 to conduct the analysis and see how much progress we can make.
